Board of Directors
General Responsibilities
1. The AIA Palm Beach Board of Directors
is responsible to the members of the Chapter for
the proper management and effective handling of
the business of the Chapter and must represent
the best interest of the members and the Institute
at all times. Service on the Board requires a
commitment of time and resources. Each Director,
in accepting their position on the Board, has
made this commitment and accepts the requirements
of service as a priority.
2. Directors attend and participate in each monthly
Board Meeting. Every effort should be made to
be in attendance and on time. Board meetings are
held on the second Tuesday of each month and are
usually one hour in length.
3. All Directors must read, review and be prepared
to discuss all items on the meeting agendas, minutes
of meetings, financial reports, calendars, special
reports and all information provided prior to
the meeting so that they can act in the best interest
of the membership.
4. Each Director is responsible for helping to
generate income for the Chapter through sponsorships,
event participation, advertising, promotion and
other sources.
5. Directors are expected to attend all AIA Palm
Beach functions including membership meetings,
special events and social functions and to support
the Chapter's efforts in all programs.
6. Directors are expected to read and understand
the by-laws of the Chapter and the Public Policies
of the institute, and to act in accordance with
these governances. Directors are responsible for
seeking information and utilizing resources (AIA
websites, publications, etc.) and for keeping
themselves informed and updated so that they can
best represent the members of the Chapter at all
times.
7. As representatives and leaders of the Chapter,
Directors are expected to be informed regarding
AIA membership benefits, dues structure, programs,
sponsorship opportunities, scholarships and procedures
and should be active ambassadors for the Chapter
in recruiting new members, sponsors and supporters
for the Chapter.
8. Directors must work closely with the Executive
Director regarding their Committee activities
and progress in order to coordinate budgets, calendars
and logistics.
9. New Board Members are required to provide a
photograph of themselves and a brief bio, which
may be used in AIA publications and/or programs.
The photo and bio must be provided by November
10, 2008.
10. The President is expected to attend the AIA
National Convention and Design Exposition, and
the President-Elect to attend the AIA Grassroots
Leadership and Legislative Conference. After their
return, they should report their experience at
the next Board of Directors meeting.
